CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
The #1 UVa baseball team came-from-behind to beat Georgia Tech 4-3 in the series opener Friday night at Davenport Field.

Mike Papi hit a two-out, two run single in the 7th inning to give the Cavaliers (39-9, 19-9) the lead.

Whit Mayberry and Nick Howard pitched the 8th and 9th innings, with Howard earning his 16th save of the season.

Cavaliers' starter Nathan Kirby gave up three runs and six hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out four.

Virginia is 12-3 in one-run games this season.

Friday night's victory was the 500th win of head coach Brian O'Connor's career (500-170-2), and he is the second-fastest man in ACC history to reach the milestone.

UVa and Georgia Tech continue the series Saturday at noon at Davenport Field.
