Task Force Plans to Tackle Solid Waste Issues in Albemarle
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
A new task force in Albemarle County is looking to find a long-term plan for dealing with solid waste. Tuesday was the second meeting for the task force, created by the county Board of Supervisors.
The solid waste collection center in Ivy needs upgrades, and the group is looking at a number of options on how to do that. The group's chairman,” Dr. Leo Mallek, says he wants to hear from the community, but the goals of the task force still aren't set in stone.
"To try to arrange a group to investigate some of the perceived problems to dealing with long-term solutions to the problems that the community may be interested in,” Mallek said.
There are two main proposals on the table right now to upgrade the Ivy station: an enclosure or a convenience center. The latter would cost the county less.
Mallek says, “The next step is to identify whether there actually is a problem with solid waste in Albemarle County.”
