Staunton Police Investigating the Deaths of 2 Dogs

Posted: Updated:

Staunton police are investigating the bizarre deaths of two dogs.

On Sunday the animals' owners found them hanging by their own leashes in their chain link kennel outside a home in the 400 block of Jersey Street in Staunton.  As you may imagine, they are sickened by the situation, and the rest of the community is worried a disturbed individual could be behind this.

Staunton police are using surveillance video captured by a neighbor to try and narrow down the possibilities.  Police says there's a chance the whole thing was freak accident.  Upon evaluating the scene, investigators noticed the kennel somehow shifted. They believe it's possible with the high winds, an unfortunate accident may have led to the two dogs dying.

That video surveillance only covers part of the yard where the dogs died, but police will still look into all evidence available.

Neighbors also said it was a quiet afternoon, and they can't think of anyone that would have done something like this.

Animal control is working on this case and a necropsy is underway.
