UVa Women's Lax Ready for Familiar Foe in NCAA Tournament
UVa will host Penn State or Princeton Sunday at 4pm
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
There will be no surprises for the Virginia women's lacrosse team in its NCAA Tournament game Sunday.
The Cavaliers have already played both Penn State and Princeton, and they'll get another chance to see them in the first round game Friday at Klockner.
Senior goalkeeper Liz Colgan says, "It'll be nice to hopefully catch their game. I feel like the best film is watching in person."
Head coach Julie Myers says, "It'll be great to see Penn State and Princeton compete and go after it on Friday night. It's going to be a great game. I think either team can win, and I know we're going to have a fierce matchup on our hands Sunday as well."
The Wahoos beat the Lions earlier this season, while they lost to the Tigers.
Colgan says, "I don't think there's a team consensus yet, on which one we hope comes out on top. Either way, we'll be looking at some old film, and it'll be nice to get a second chance at anyone."
Whomever wins will have a quick turnaround for the game on Sunday.
Junior attacker Courtney Swan says, "Last year, we played the two games. By that second game, we were exhausted, so it's a huge advantage coming in."
Virginia has played eleven games against Top Ten teams this season, and won five of its last seven matches.
"I think that was a huge factor as to why we got put as the 6-seed, was our strength of schedule," says Swan. "We've seen it all. There's nothing we can really be surprised with."
Myers adds, "We're tested, and we have come out to be pretty resilient. Everybody did a little bit more, a little bit better, and I think that kind of strength has really helped us down the stretch, and we're looking forward to some great lacrosse coming up."
UVa will play Penn State or Princeton Sunday at four o'clock.
