A man convicted of abduction and rape in Albemarle County will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Tuesday, Judge Cheryl Higgins upheld the jury's recommended two life sentences for 33-year-old Henry Jasper, who was found guilty back in January.
He had forced a victim into her Fifth Street home at knifepoint and raped her in April of 2012. In court Tuesday, Jasper said he wished he could take it back, and the victim didn't deserve what happened. He also said, "no matter how much time you give me, I deserve it," then asked the court for leniency.
In deciding the sentence, the judge said his prior convictions and parole violations show a shorter sentence does not appear to help deter him from committing another offense.
Jasper was also ordered to pay restitution to the victim and to no longer have any contact with the victim or her family.
