Hawkins Sentenced to 5 Years for United Bank Robbery

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
The man who robbed the United Bank on Charlottesville’s downtown mall in June 2013 will spend five years behind bars.
In November 2013, 38-year-old Richard Hawkins, III pleaded guilty to bank robbery. Tuesday a Charlottesville Circuit Court judge sentenced Hawkins to 20 years with 15 years suspended. Once he has served his time, he will be on indefinite supervised probation.
Hawkins did testify during the hearing, crying and apologizing to the bank tellers.
He will have to pay $3,297 in restitution to the bank.
