An Augusta County man is now facing charges of attempted murder and unlawful wounding.
Police say 40-year-old Carl Winters beat and threatened to kill a 19-year-old man with a knife at a home in Greenville in January. According to the others in the home at the time of the fight, Winters tackled the 19-year-old victim to the ground, punched the man in the face and then tried to pull out a knife to finish the job. In the midst of the violence, another person hit Winters over the head with a frying pan.
The victim was treated at Augusta Health for his injuries.
At the time, Winters was arrested for unlawful wounding. As the case has made its way through the courts, the commonwealth's attorney added an attempted murder charge.
As of now, the case made its way before a grand jury and the charges will move forward. Online records do not have another court appearance scheduled at the moment.
