CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
After Virginia's spring football game three weeks ago, rising sophomore quarterback Greyson Lambert was named one of four team captains for the upcoming season.

It was an indication that Lambert was likely going to be UVA's starter this year, and Monday head coach Mike London made it official with the release of the post-spring depth chart: Greyson Lambert will be Virginia's starting quarterback going into the fall.

Lambert was the first quarterback to take the field in the Cavaliers' spring game.

He threw two touchdowns in that scrimmage, as well as two interceptions.

London says, "We believe that he did a really good job of putting the ball where it needed to be, commanding the huddle, making some throws that we are going to require and ask our quarterbacks to do, but the big thing for us is making sure our quarterbacks our accurate.  Whoever that guy is, and right now coming out of it, Greyson has the nod for that."

Lambert is a big 6-foot-5 pocket passer.

The red-shirt sophomore played in seven games last year, throwing for 340 yards and one touchdown.

The touchdown came against North Carolina, while Lambert's best-game came against Miami, when he completed 13-of-19 passes in the second half.

Lambert, a Georgia native, beat out incumbent David Watford, who didn't play very well last year, leading Virginia to only two wins.

Watford is listed as co-number two with sophomore Matt Johns on the depth chart.

Keeon Johnson (6-3, 215 So.), Kyle Dockins (6-3, 210 So.), and Miles Gooch (6-3, 230 Sr.) are the top three wide receivers on the depth chart.

London says, "Those size receivers will give us a chance to make some plays, and go up for some balls in the red zone, and make some of these difficult catches look easy. I believe the receiver group, is a talented, physical group, that with a quarterback who can be accurate, and running backs that can also be productive for you, that should help us offensively."

Zachary Swanson (6-6, 260 Sr.) is the #1 tight end with the departure of Jake McGee.

Senior Kevin Parks and sophomore Taquan Mizzell remain 1-2 on the depth chart at the running back position.

Junior David Dean is listed as the starter at one of UVa's two defensive tackle positions, with sophomore Donte Wilkins and true freshman Andrew Brown sharing the starting job at the other DT spot.

The Cavaliers will have an experienced defensive backfield this year, with senior Demetrious Nicholson and junior Maurice Canady manning the cornerback spots, and seniors Anthony Harris and Brandon Phelps at the safety position.
