Public TV Station WVPT Moves to New Home

Posted: Updated:

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) - A public television station that serves the Shenandoah Valley and central Virginia has moved to a new home.

WVPT-TV left its longtime home at James Madison University's Port Republic Road entrance this week and moved to the Copperstone Office Complex in Harrisonburg.

President and general manager David Mullins tells The Daily News-Record (http://bit.ly/1hrr01v ) that the Copperstone site has new equipment which will enable high-definition programming.

The station plans to add technology that will allow off-site production of shows.

WVPT-TV opened at the James Madison site in 1968. The university bought the building last October and plans to use it for academic purposes.

The station will lease space at its former home for its transmitter.

A formal opening of the new site is planned this summer.
