James River Runners Chili Cook-Off and Brewers Challenge
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -
The 33rd James River Runners Chili Cook-Off and Brewers Challenge spiced things up at Hatton Ferry in Scottsville Saturday. Ten chili cookers and seven breweries came out to see who was the best in their craft.
First place chili cookers won a $200 cash prize, and the first place brewer earned a hand-made wooden tap. All proceeds from the event went to the Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department.
“It's awesome, we love seeing the community, we love being out in the community with people,” said organizer Jason Pugh. “This is a chance for the community to help us out, and also have a wonderful time.”
This year, the festival added some fun activities for the kids.
About 750 people came out Saturday and organizers say it continues to grow. They're looking for more chili cookers to sign up for next year's event.
