Family and friends of state Senator Creigh Deeds gathered Saturday in Rockbridge County for a service to celebrate the life of his son, Gus, who took his own life following an attack on his father.
The memorial service was held at Nature Camp, where Gus Deeds spent several years as a camper and counselor.
Friends, fellow campers, and his father recounted memories to the crowd of about 100 people. Deeds says the camp was the biggest part of his son's life.
There are now plans for two memorials to be built there in honor of Gus. A pavilion will be constructed, and the camp will offer a scholarship in Gus's name.
