Dogwood Track Classic This Weekend at Lannigan Field
Lannigan Field will host the 50th Dogwood Classic
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
Some of the best track and field athletes from across the Commonwealth will be at UVa's Lannigan Field this weekend for the 50th annual Dogwood Track Classic.
Meet director Charlie Hurt says, "It's a very high octane meet. It's a lot of fun watching the kids race at a high level. There's a lot of very competitive teams, and very competitive individuals. It's going to be a lot of fun to watch."
There fifty high schools competing this year, and the meet serves as a fundraiser for the local high schools.
Relay races are scheduled for Friday night, with the field events beginning Saturday at 11 AM, and the action on the track getting started at noon.
Albemarle's Ryan Thomas is the top-seed in the boys 1600-meter run, with a time of 4:12.38.
Hurt says, "The boys mile, that's going to be very fast. There are four or five kids seeded at under 4:20, so it should be a good barnburner."
