Eric Hess Sworn in as Interim Fluvanna County Sheriff

PALMYRA, Va. – Earlier today, the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office welcomed Eric Hess as the Interim Sheriff of Fluvanna County.
Clerk of Circuit Court B.E. Peterson administered the oath of office to Hess Friday morning at Fluvanna County Circuit Courthouse.
On May 1, 2014, Circuit Court Judge Susan Whitlock issued a court order (Code of Virginiaper section 24.1-228) permitting the next highest ranking officer to assume the duties of the Sheriff when there is a vacancy.
Former Fluvanna County Sheriff Ryant Washington recently resigned to accept a position working as a Policy Advisor for Governor Terry McAuliffe.
Hess has more than 21 years of law enforcement experience, and served as Washington’s Chief Deputy for the last eight years.
For now, Hess says that his primary focus is to continue the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office. “I have a great staff, and we will continue to run a professional operation, he said.
Hess plans to run for the Sheriff’s seat during the next scheduled election.
