Former Cville Comm. of the Revenue to Receive Lifelong Achievement Award

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Former Charlottesville Commissioner of the Revenue Lee Richards has been selected as the recipient of the Lifelong Achievement in Public Service Award from the James Madison University School of Public and International Affairs as part of their Public Service Recognition Week. The award will be given at an event at JMU on Monday, May 5th from 5 pm to 7 pm.

The Lifelong Achievement in Public Service Award recognizes an individual for a career-long commitment to public service and an overall impact on advancing the public interest through active engagement with the community, strengthening social equity, demonstrating personal integrity, promoting ethical standards of performance and stewardship, and advancing professional excellence.

Lee has demonstrated a lifetime commitment to the values of public service, defined as public interest through active engagement with the community, strengthening social equity, demonstrating personal integrity, promoting ethical standards of performance and stewardship, and advancing professional excellence.

"Nearly every citizen of Charlottesville who had contact with the Commissioner's Office during Lee Richards' tenure was left with the unmistakable impression of a person wholly dedicated to public service in the most altruistic sense of the word,"said current City Commissioner of Revenue Todd Divers.

Raymond L. Richards, Charlottesville Commissioner of the Revenue from 1994 to 2013, received a B.A. in History in 1974 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and a Masters of Education degree in 1977 from Madison College. Prior to becoming Commissioner of the Revenue, Mr. Richards worked in several positions within City government beginning in 1979, including the Treasurer's Office.
