ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -

Some good Samaritans pulled a man from a burning SUV when an accident led to a fiery mess in Albemarle County Friday morning.

Police say an SUV ran into the back of a septic truck on Woodbrook Drive. The SUV caught fire, but the people on scene helped pulled the driver from the burning vehicle.

"The person was assisted from the vehicle and the SUV that was on fire by citizens prior to our arrival. He was removed. We did have one vehicle on fire and a tanker truck hauling raw sewage with a slight leak,” said Steve Elliot of Albemarle Fire and Rescue.

Emergency crews took both drivers to the University of Virginia Medical Center. They are expected to recover.

It took crews more than an hour to clear out the wreckage.
