Virginia's Alex Domijan Named ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Year

Virginia senior Alex Domijan was named the 2014 ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year, conference officials announced Thursday. He was also joined on the All-ACC team by teammates Mitchell Frank, Ryan Shane, Mac Styslinger and Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, as the Cavaliers led all teams with five selections.

Domijan becomes the fourth different Virginia player to be named ACC Player of the Year, joining Brian Vahaly (2000 and 2001), Somdev Devvarman (2008) and Jarmere Jenkins (2012). Currently ranked No. 6 nationally in singles, he has posted a 24-1 in singles record this spring. Domijan, who will be the No. 6 seed in this year’s NCAA Singles Championship, becomes the fourth Cavalier to be a four-time All-ACC selection.

Joining Domijan on the All-ACC first team is Frank, who was honored for the third time in his career. The junior is currently ranked No. 4 nationally in singles and has posted a 17-3 singles record this year, highlighted by winning the ITA All-American Championships in October. He is the No. 4 seed in this year’s NCAA Singles Championship.

Shane earned All-ACC honors for the first time as he was named to the second team. Currently ranked No. 46 nationally in singles. he has posted a 24-6 record this season. Shane will compete in the NCAA Singles Championship for the first time later this month.

Styslinger was recognized for the second consecutive year, receiving third-team honors. Currently ranked No. 81 nationally in singles, he has posted a 14-3 singles record this season.

Kwiatkowski also was named to the All-ACC third team. He has posted an 18-1 singles record during his freshman season and is ranked No. 113 nationally.

Virginia, the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Team Championship, opens play May 10-11 as it hosts first and second round action at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers (23-2) meet Army in the first round on May 10 at 12 p.m., with Penn State and UNC Wilmington also competing in the Charlottesville Regional.
