Overturned Tractor-Trailer Closes Lanes on I-64 for Hours

Posted: Updated:

Route 29 at the Interstate 64 overpass in Albemarle County is back open after a crash shut things down for several hours Wednesday.

A truck carrying logs turned over in the southbound lanes just before 8:30 a.m.

It took a few hours to clean up the mess, but no major injuries were reported.

The truck driver has been charged with driving too fast for the rainy conditions.

Original Virginia Department of Transportation Press Release

CULPEPER — A tractor-trailer has overturned on Route 29 just south of Charlottesville and is blocking both southbound lanes and the Interstate 64 east on-ramp. The Interstate 64 west off-ramp at exit 118A is also blocked.

The Virginia Department of Transportation and first responders have reduced Rt. 29 northbound traffic to one lane so that Rt. 29 southbound traffic can turn around.

I-64 westbound motorists wishing to exit will be detoured further west to milepost 114 (Ivy), or should exit the interstate prior to milepost 118.

Motorists should expect delays in the area for the next several hours.
