Taylor Townsend Wins Tinsley Clay Court Classic Championship
18-year-old Chicago native Taylor Townsend won her first USTA Pro Circuit championships on Sunday. She defeated Montserrat Gonzalez of Paraguay 6-2, 6-3 to capture the singles crown at the Boyd Tinsley Clay Court Classic.
Townsend says, "Very exciting, I'm very happy as you can see, I got a new watch, I can't wait to put it on. It was great (meeting Boyd Tinsley) I had to tell him that I played violin for 3 years just to let him know that you're not the only cool person who plays the fiddle, ok? (laugh)"
Townsend also teamed up with Asia Muhammad in the doubles final, where the second-seeded duo knocked off top seeded Irina Falconi and Maria Sanchez of the United States, 6-3, 6-1.
