Friday marked the 49th Vietnam Memorial dedication in Charlottesville's McIntire Park.
This year, Edward Allen Firth’s name was added to the memorial stone that honors local heroes who fought and died in the war.
Jim Schisler organized the very first ceremony in 1966, and he led the event Friday.
"It's an appreciation of the military, as well as it is an appreciation of the 24 who are named here, as well as all the others who served in Vietnam,” said Schisler.
It rained during the ceremony last year. One of Friday’s speakers said they felt those were tears from above for the fallen soldiers. This year just as the ceremony concluded, it rained as well.
