Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau Press Release
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (April 24, 2014) – The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention &Visitors Bureau (CACVB) was presented with two prestigious VIRGO Travel & Tourism Awards at the 2014 Virginia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus Spring meeting in Loudon County, Virginia.
The tourism organization took home two out of the 13 state awards, handed out to “individuals, groups, businesses and destination marketing organizations that significantly contribute to the Commonwealth of Virginia’s economy through tourism promotion and development.”
The CACVB received VIRGO Awards in the following categories:
Broadcast for its series of promotional videos featuring enticing imagery of Charlottesville and Albemarle County accompanied by the popular Dave Matthews Bandsong “Stay.”
Tourism Rising Star Award, which was awarded to Tracy Kellum, Visitors RelationsManager for the CACVB. In addition to managing two visitor centers, Tracy is leading anumber of other tourism initiatives, including a brand new Concierge Charlottesville training in collaboration with the Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC.)
The Virginia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus’ mission is to offer advocacy, networking and professional development opportunities for the purpose of member destination success.
CACVB’s Executive Director, Kurt Burkhart, said that he was “extremely gratified by this recognition from industry professionals who know and understand what constitutes impactfulmarketing.” He added that he was especially thrilled with the VIRGO award presented to Tracy Kellum, “a great recognition for this most deserving team member who always goes above andfor whom customer service is a top priority.”
Burkhart also recognized and congratulated the entire team at the CACVB and its creative partners at Payne, Ross & Associates upon winning the VIRGO in the Broadcast category, saying, “Our videos, produced by Payne, Ross & Associates, with the invaluable collaboration of Silverthorn Films, truly evoke the unique vibe of Charlottesville and Albemarle County and we are fortunate to have such great tools to market our area to the outside world.”
This year marks the sixth year for the VIRGO Travel and Tourism Awards and the second inwhich the CACVB has won. Last year, the CACVB took home two VIRGOS for Advertising & Promotions Online for its record-breaking Facebook marketing efforts and for Public Relations Initiative for the “Rebranding Charlottesville & Albemarle County” efforts, which included the public launch of our new logo and brand identity.Also, this is the second year that judging for the VIRGO Awards was done by a panel of out-of-state industry professionals.
