UVa's Mark Cockerton Named All-ACC

Posted: Updated:
Mark Cockerton was named to the men’s lacrosse All-ACC squad, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. The team is determined by a vote of the league’s six head coaches. The accolade is the second career honor for the senior attackman after also being named to the team last season.

Cockerton (Oshawa, Ontario) is No. 4 in the nation with 41 goals and No. 9 in the nation with 53 points. The senior has 21 career hat tricks, eight of which have come this season.  Cockerton scored a career-high seven goals at Mount St. Mary’s on Feb. 25. The game against the Mount was part of a three-game streak where Cockerton tallied seven points in each contest.  Against Rutgers and Syracuse the attackman recorded four goals and three assists in each contest.

Earlier this season Cockerton became the 15th Cavalier to amass at least 100 career goals. With 119 career goals entering this weekend, Cockerton is tied for No. 9 all-time at UVa in career goals with Danny Glading (2006-09). Cockerton’s 119 career goals currently sits as the eighth most in the nation for career goals among active players.

The Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year will be announced early next week.

UVa returns to action on Saturday in the inaugural ACC Championship Showcase Game against the North Carolina Tar Heels. The rematch from last season’s ACC Championship game will be contested at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
