Charlottesville car shoppers are some of the most environmentally motivated in the nation. Cars.com ranks Charlottesville second - behind San Francisco, California - on its annual top ten list of "greenest car shoppers."
It's the only East Coast city on the list. The rankings are based on searches for hybrid or electric cars on the website.
Charlottesville is currently offering grants for businesses to install public charging stations around the city.
“The goals for that are so that if anyone is looking to visit Charlottesville, they don't have to even question - will I be able to charge my car to get home? They'll have the confidence they can do that,” said Susan Elliott, of Charlottesville Climate Protection Program coordinator. “If anyone is moving here or already lives here and wants to buy an electric vehicle, they can feel confident as they go around the city for shopping or to see people or go to work they'll always be able to find a charger that's accessible.”
Charlottesville car shoppers can check out the first-ever "green auto show" as part of the Eco-Fair Sunday at the Main Street Arena from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
