RICHMOND, Va. (WVIR) -
Brandon Downes hit a home run to lead off the 10th inning, and the #1 Virginia baseball team beat VCU 5-4 Tuesday night at The Diamond in Richmond.

UVa lead 4-3 heading into the 9th inning, but a two-out error allowed the Rams to tie the game, and send it to extra innings.

Derek Fisher went 2-for-4 with a home run for Virginia.

Branden Cogswell, Joe McCarthy, and Downes also had two hits for the Cavaliers (34-7).

Nick Howard got the win on the mound after pitching 1.2 innings while striking out four and allowing one unearned run.

Whit Mayberry came on in the 10th to earn his second save of the season.

UVa will be back on the field Wednesday, as the 'Hoos host Richmond at 6 PM at Davenport Field.
