Professional Tennis Player Stops by Village School for Meet & Greet
A professional tennis player stopped in Charlottesville Tuesday morning to share her experience with a group of middle school girls.
The Village School hosted women's circuit player Nicola Slater for the special outreach visit. Slater is in town competing in the 13th annual Boyd Tinsley Clay Classic currently underway at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
Nicola is a defending doubles champion in the tournament, and says it's important to encourage kids to get involved with a sport.
“Tennis is a sport for life. It's a little bit different to the others. You only need one other person, or not even. You can go out and play against a wall, so just to let the kids know that and kind of get more players into the game. It'd be great,” said Slater.
About 80 Village School students took part in the meet and greet event.
Slater says the greatest accomplishment in her career so far started with winning this tournament last year.
