#9 UVa Men's Lacrosse beats Bellarmine 12-8 on Senior Day
Mark Cockerton had a game-high four goals on Senior Day
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
The #9 Virginia men's lacrosse team beat Bellarmine 12-8 in the Cavaliers' regular season finale Saturday at Klockner Stadium.
Mark Cockerton led UVa with four goals, while Ryan Tucker and James Pannell each had two goals apiece.
Virginia (9-5) jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the 1st quarter, but the Knights rallied to take a 6-5 lead in the 2nd.
Head coach Dom Starsia says, "In the 2nd quarter, we were sloppy. We could talk about that at halftime. Everybody could see it, and knew it, and was determined to try to play a little bit better. It's just there wasn't a lot of pixie dust in the air today. We had to grind out everything we got today. We're happy to get the 'W'."
The victory against Bellarmine ended a three-game losing streak for UVa.
Cockerton says, "The feeling of winning, there's nothing like it. When we lost a few in a row there, they were tough teams, but we didn't play our best. Even though we didn't play our best today, just getting that win, it's going to get us our confidence back going into Carolina next weekend."
As the 5th and 6th place teams in the ACC, North Carolina and Virginia will play in the "Showcase Game" as part of the conference tournament next weekend in Philadelphia.
