CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -

Kirby Burkholder will have a chance to play at the next level, as the former JMU and Turner Ashby basketball star has signed a free agent contract with the Washington Mystics of the WNBA.

Burkholder was named the CAA Player of the Year in her senior season, after leading the league with over 19 points per game.

She finished her career in 5th place on the Dukes' all-time scoring list, and helped lead James Madison to its first NCAA tournament victory since 1991.

Burkholder is the fourth JMU player to sign a contract with a WNBA team under head coach Kenny Brooks, joining Meredith Alexis (2007), Tamera Young (2008) and Dawn Evans (2011).
