Augusta Historical Society Celebrates 50th Anniversary
AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
The Augusta County Historical Society is celebrating 50 years of preserving the heritage of the Shenandoah Valley.
The Stonewall Jackson Hotel in Staunton was packed Tuesday night. Guests came as themselves, but some people of the past were also in attendance. Someone came dressed as Charles Lindbergh and someone else as Henry Ford.
The historical society aims to be around for another 50 years, which they say takes money.
"We have climate-controlled archives so we can preserve all those papers and documents. We have a gallery. We do events. We educate people about our history and heritage and we want to keep doing that long after we're gone,” said Nancy Sorrells, a former president of the historical society’s.
Fundraising was done through live and silent auctions.
