Albemarle County Police Department Press Release
The Albemarle County Police Department, in conjunction with Martha Jefferson Hospital, is taking part in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative. This is an opportunity to safely dispose of expired, unwanted or unused prescription drugs. The Albemarle County Police Department on 5th Street and the Martha Jefferson Hospital Outpatient Care Center on Pantops will serve as drop off locations. You can stop by either location from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26th, 2014.
Controlled, non-controlled and over the counter substances can be collected. The program is anonymous and the identity of the individuals and the drugs collected will not be released.
We will not be collecting sharps or discarded medical needles. A law enforcement officer will be with the distribution boxes at all times. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) sponsors the Take Back Initiative and will collect the drugs for destruction after the event.
Please help us spread the word about this public safety opportunity. Note, this is a community drop off but it is not for medical facilities to dispose of their supplies.
