Organizers Gear Up for Virginia Fly Fishing and Wine Festival
WAYNESBORO, Va (WVIR) -
The Virginia Fly Fishing and Wine Festival kicks off Saturday morning, and organizers say the weekend offers something for everyone.
More than 1,500 are expected to gather on the banks of the South River of Waynesboro for the event. Fly fishers say you can catch rainbow trout and small mouth bass.
A portion of funds go toward conserving the river.
"I have the attention span of about the average 5-year-old, and the thing that I like about fly fishing is, I can continually cast and mend my line. It's kind of like water chess. You try to figure out where the fish are and what they're interested in,” said Beau Beasley, director of programs for the festival.
For the kids, there will be a catch and release trout pool. For the adults, there will be several wineries and microbreweries on site.
The festival goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
