Central Virginia Chapter of the American Red Cross Press Release

Charlottesville, Va. – The American Red Cross, Central Virginia Chapter and Whole Foods Market raised more than $6,200 on April 2 for Operation Enduring Support, which supports all past and present military members and their families. The Whole Foods on Hydraulic Road donated 5 percent of all sales (minus alcohol transactions) from the fundraiser last week.

"It was a busy, fun day," said Red Cross Service to Armed Forces (SAF) Coordinator Patti Wilson. "We enjoyed answering questions and providing information about all of the SAF support programs with the Red Cross.

"Many shoppers wrote notes on postcards to our service members in Afghanistan, Kuwait and Djibouti. We thank our Red Cross volunteers and Whole Foods for making this fundraiser a reality."

The monetary donation from Whole Foods will provide food, baby supplies and household products to active duty, reservists, veterans and their families needing assistance.

"Having military veterans working here at Whole Foods reminds us of how grateful we are to have them serve our country," said Kristen Rabourdin, Marketing Manager at Whole Foods Market in Charlottesville. "We can never thank and help them enough, and we look forward to doing more events like this again."

Operation Enduring Support originated in 2002 with a local community supporting the 2-116th Infantry Battalion of the VA Army National Guard, which was deployed to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Click here to learn more about Operation Enduring Support.
