Cville Habitat for Humanity Hosts Event Focused on Reducing Poverty

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of community members from Charlottesville and Albemarle County met Wednesday to talk about reducing poverty.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville hosted the event at the DoubleTree Hotel. They discussed the success of turning the Southwood mobile home park into a neighborhood.

"We purchased Sunrise in 2004, promised the residents who live there that we would redevelop it with them at the center, and thankfully, thanks to great community support, we were able to keep to our promise,” said Dan Rosensweig, executive director for the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville.

They also discussed strategies like mixed-income neighborhoods and greater community cooperation in bringing poverty rates down.
