Overnight Closures at Zion Crossroads for Overhead Sign Installation

Posted: Updated:

Get ready for some back-ups Thursday night on Route 15 at Zion Crossroads.

Virginia Department of Transportation workers will be installing overhead signs starting at about 10 p.m. There will be 15-minute road closures throughout the night and into early morning.

VDOT advises drivers to skip Route 15 altogether while the work is going on. If you can't, be prepared to wait a little.

Virginia Department of Transportation Press Release

CULPEPER — Route 15 at Zion Crossroads will be closed to traffic for brief periods overnight Thursday and early Friday morning during the installation of overhead signs. The closures will also affect traffic on the exit ramps from Interstate 64. The work is being done as part of the Virginia Department of Transportation’s diverging diamond interchange project.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Thursday, and working in one location at a time, the road will be narrowed to one lane while a crane is positioned to move the overhead sign structure into position. Then traffic will be halted at that location while the sign is lifted into place and bolted onto the upright posts. Once the sign is secure traffic will be released.

The closures are expected to last approximately 15 minutes; the process will be repeated four times to install the signs above Route 15 north and southbound and on the east and westbound exit ramps from I-64. The work should be completed by 4 a.m. Friday.

Motorists may wish to consider an alternate route to avoid Route 15 through the Zion Crossroads interchange while the work is being done. If they cannot avoid that area they should anticipate delays of up to 15 minutes while the signs are being installed.
