VDOT Continues to Improve Rt. 20 Traffic Trouble Spot
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -
The Virginia Department of Transportation continues to make changes to a traffic trouble spot in Scottsville near Walton Middle School.
A 2012 study found the intersection of Route 20 and Red Hill Road was dangerous for drivers because of a blind curve. Contractors removed trees in the area to increase visibility and now more work has begun to make the area safer.
Recently crews began upgrading existing signage to make it larger, and adding flashing beacons, or lights, to let drivers on Route 20 know to look out for cars coming ahead.
VDOT Spokesperson Stacy Londrey said, “we look at crash-prone areas and the types of crashes, the severity of the crashes that occur there and look for solutions that we can do in the short term."
These improvements are being funded by federal money through VDOT's highway safety improvement program. The project costs $160,000.
