UVA Hosts Softball Tournament to Raise Money for Area Charities
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
Law school students from across the country put their softball skills to the test in Charlottesville to raise money for area charities. The University of Virginia Law School hosted its 31st annual softball tournament on several diamonds around town.
117 teams from more than 60 schools tried to hit their way to the top of the tourney.
“It was started in the early 80's by a couple guys who just loved playing softball and I think law schools love having a chance to come visit UVA and spend some time in Charlottesville,” said tournament director Emily Hankin.
This weekend's tournament raised $20,000 for children, youth and family services in Charlottesville. Organizers are also donating $3,000 to the Public Interest Law Association at UVA.
