American Legion members in Keswick presented an award to the group's National Vice Commander. Post 74, which serves Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and nearby areas, welcomed the National Vice Commander Saturday.
Members presented the commander with a check for $1,000 they raised for the National Emergency Fund.
“Whenever you can't buy the groceries, pay the utility bills, it is big and basically we will be first on site to give them that help,” said National Vice Commander Paul Dillard.
The American Legion serves veterans and their families. Nationwide, the group has 3 million members and relies on its strong membership to represent the interests of veterans in Congress.
