The Charlottesville City Market is back in business for the season. More than 100 vendors set up in the Water Street parking lot for the City Market's opening day Saturday.
Hundreds of visitors sampled food, picked out some fresh flowers, and shopped for handmade crafts.
Last year, City Market sales topped $1.6 million.
“Every year it gets better. I realize at some point it can't get better,” said City Market master Stephanie Anderegg-Maloy. “1.6 [million] is a lot, but we can always hope, and with a start like today, it is possible.”
Market managers say the fire that engulfed the market administrative building will not affect operations this season.
The Charlottesville City Market is open every Saturday morning through December.
