Former UVa Star Zimmerman Starts off 2014 In Style for Nationals
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -
The National's record falls to 3-1 on the season with the loss to Atlanta in game 1 of a 3 game series at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.
Former UVa star Ryan Zimmerman is now in his ninth season with the Nationals.
The third baseman is batting fifth in the batting order this year.
Zimmerman went 1-3 Friday with an RBI on a sac fly and is now batting .412 through four games this season.
Friday, Zimmerman and the Nat's couldn't get that clutch hit in a tight game.
"I mean it was a good game," said Zimmerman. "These two teams are two really good teams and I think most of the games are going to be like this. Very rarely would these two teams have a blow out or something like that. It's going to be like that all year long and we're just going to have to come up with the big hits...We scored a lot of runs our first three games and I think a lot of us are just more comfortable - more settled in. We gotta group of guys that have been around and have done a lot of good things in this game so I think we're all excited to play this year and see what kind of offense we can have because it can be a special one."
The Nationals and Braves both have 3-1 records now and will continue the series Saturday night at Nationals Park.
