A large chunk of proceeds from the University of Virginia Bookstore are now going to AccessUVA, the school's financial aid program.
UVA Bookstore's Executive Director John Kates says about $250,000 will go to Access UVA annually. Kates says many of the bookstore's employees are UVA students who rely on financial aid services.
"They have enriched our lives and we wanted to do something to communicate both our thanks, but also to encourage opportunities for other students like them,” said Kates.
The new initiative is underway now. It will officially be launched on Founders Day later this month.
