#1 Virginia Shuts Out GW 10-0; Improves to 25-4

Posted: Updated:
The #1 ranked UVa baseball team scored four runs in the second inning and four runs in the eighth inning and cruised to a 10-0 win over George Washington.

Every Virginia starter scored at least one run.  Branden Cogswell tied a career high with four hits going 4-for-5.   Kenny Townes picked up a pair of doubles and had 2 RBI.

Virginia wins its 15th straight game at home and eighth straight overall improving to 25-4.

Cogswell said, "I always thought in an inning, in a game that hits are contagious, I think once you see the wheels start rolling, everyone kind of hops on. As long as guys are not trying to do too much, good things are going to happen."

UVa coach Brian O'Connor said, "I think we're playing really good baseball. Coming into the two games in the middle of the week you always a little bit concerned but to respond by only giving up one run in those two games, I'm pretty impressed with what our pitching staff did especially with the guys that traditionally don't get an opportunity."

Virginia begins a 3-game series at Pittsburgh starting on Friday.
