Redskins Sign Receiver DeSean Jackson

Posted: Updated:
The Washington Redskins have signed receiver DeSean Jackson to a 3-year deal worth 24 million dollars.  $16 million is guaranteed.Jackson (5-10, 175) was originally selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round (49th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 87 regular season games with 86 starts, compiling 7,813 all-purpose yards and 39 total touchdowns, all with Philadelphia from 2008-13.

For his career, the three-time Pro Bowler has amassed 356 receptions for 6,117 yards (17.2 avg.) with 32 receiving touchdowns and 57 rushing attempts for 373 yards (6.5 avg.) and three rushing touchdowns. He has also returned 131 punts for 1,294 yards (9.9 avg.) with four touchdowns and has added 29 yards on four kick returns.

Jackson was cut by the Eagles last week amid reports that he had off-the-field issues and ties to gang members.  Philadelphia initially tried to trade Jackson before releasing him.   Jackson had signed a 5-year $48.2 million dollar deal with the Eagles two years ago.

Jackson says, "I think first off, I feel they embraced me as far as RGIII [Robert Griffin III], [DeAngelo] Hall reached out to me and made it feel like it was home for me here. After everything that was going on the past couple days and the last week, that’s a big step and first move for me. I think DeAngelo Hall really stepped up to the plate and you know called me and just said, 'Look bro, I know I've been playing against you for a long time but this is a situation where I think if you came in here, I think you could help us out a lot.' You know, for myself I was at a point in my career where that made me very humble – to everything to go down the way it happened – but coming here, Bruce Allen, Mr. Snyder, Jay Gruden, I think it was an open arms situation. And I was just looking for an opportunity to come in and be productive and help out any way possible. I think this place right here is a great place and has some great things going on and I’m just happy to be an addition to help this team win."
