UVA Baseball's McCarthy Named ACC Co-Player of the Week

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

University of Virginia Outfielder Joe McCarthy has been named the ACC co-player of the week.

McCarthy was lethal at the plate for the 'Hoos, hitting in all five games last week and going 5-for-11 with seven RBI in a three game sweep of Virginia Tech.

"I think I'm just a lot more comfortable out there," said McCarthy. "Relaxed. I'm not going to say nervous but just a lot calmer at the plate. I think my approach is better and I just find myself more calm."

Head coach Brian O'Connor said, "There's sometimes where you scratch your head and you say, why did you take the 2-0 fastball and then he's right on the next one. It's tough to change. He's got his approach and it seems to work for him."
