SNL's Sasheer Zamata Returns to UVA for Standup Show in April

Posted: Updated:

A breakout star on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" is returning to a stage at her alma mater, the University of Virginia.

The University Programs Council started selling tickets Monday to see Sasheer Zamata. The 2008 UVA grad is coming back to grounds for a standup show on April 13.

Earlier this year, Zamata became SNL’s first African-American female cast member in six years.

The council says student support helped attract the funny alum back.

“I think we succeeded in bringing her by having students reach out through that contracting process to express interest and show how interested people are to see what it takes to go from UVA student to SNL star because that's such a unique path,” said Cole Peery, University Programs Council comedy director.

Zamata's opening act will be a comedy troupe she helped establish as a student at UVA.

Tickets are $15 for the public. To order tickets, click here.
