The second ranked UVa Baseball team swept Virginia Tech Sunday with a 7-4 win in the cold, wet weather at Davenport Field.
UVa Head coach Brian O'Connor (23-4, 10-2 ACC) said, "To score seven runs - I thought they were really good ball games and we just feel really good about walking away from this week against your in-state rival and getting a sweep. Anytime you do that it's a special weekend so we'll look forward to getting back at it on Tuesday."
After the game was knotted at four in the seventh, the 'Hoos went scored three runs to bring home its seventh series win in nine tries.
Wahoo junior Mike Papi went 2-for-4 at the plate while hitting the game tying RBI in the seventh.
Joe McCarthy had a breakout weekend for Virginia. The sophomore hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the first and wrapped up the series 5-for-11 at the plate with an astounding 7 RBI.
UVa's starting pitcher Brandon Waddell worked the mound for the 6 1/3 innings, giving up three earned runs and six hits while striking out five.
The Cavaliers will stay at home this week and host Old Dominion and George Washington in a pair of midweek games. The 'Hoos will play ODU Tuesday at 5 p.m. and GW Wednesday at 5 p.m.
