About 2,500 runners hit the pavement bright and early Saturday morning for the 39th Charlottesville 10 Miler kicking off in front of the John Paul Jones Arena.
Many participants said the cool, misty morning was perfect running weather.
The course wove through the University of Virginia and downtown Charlottesville.
Many runners have been training for this day for a while.
“We've run in 20 degree weather and lots of cold windy mornings at 5:00 in the morning,” said Sarah Sturm.
Proceeds from the 10 Miler will go to the Barrett Learning Center in Charlottesville, which is the oldest preschool in Virginia.
