Charlottesville Ten Miler Kicks off Saturday Morning
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -
Thousands of runners are set to pound the pavement for a big race in Charlottesville early Saturday morning.
The Charlottesville Ten Miler will kick off near John Paul Jones Arena at 7:15 a.m. Organizers say it's important for runners to get to the start line before 7 a.m. when roads close. Copeley and Massie roads will be shut down at the start and finish of the race.
Some people have been training to compete for months.
“This is an opportunity to celebrate the fact that we've trained together and now we can race together and it's for a good cause, and even though it might rain, I think we can get some good times,” said Leah Connor, a member of the Charlottesville Track Club.
Packet pick-up is underway at JPJ until 8 p.m. Friday.
Runners also have a chance to grab their bibs for a half hour before the race Saturday.
All proceeds benefit the Barrett Early Learning Center in Charlottesville.
