UVA Students Auction off Items Signed by Men's Basketball Team

Posted: Updated:
Friday, you have the chance to bid on a couple of items signed by the entire University of Virginia men's basketball team and give back to children in central Virginia at the same time. A group of students are auctioning off the collectibles as part of a class project to raise money for charity.

The team of UVA commerce students is using the success of this year's season as inspiration for their assignment. The group says that more wins for the 'Hoos could mean more donations for their cause.

Third-year commerce student Matt Correa and his colleagues in the school's project management class kicked off their online auction this past Saturday. There is a basketball and T-shirt signed by the entire team - including coach Tony Bennett - up for grabs.

All proceeds from the project will go directly to the Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia.

Organizers say it's great to have the team's support for the assignment.

“It's been a while since our team has had this much success and we've been able to talk to some of the coaches are pretty excited about it as well and it's just great being able to do a project that involves them because those guys really do care about the community,” Correa said.

After the auction closes, the students plan to do a special drawing to raise more funds. The winner will win a paid dinner with the three fourth-years on the team.

The students are hoping to raise $1,000  through the auction. The auction will run until April 8 at 11:45 p.m.
