Albemarle County Police Department Press Release

The Region 8 Law Enforcement Torch Run will be hosting a Flag Football Tournament on Sunday, April 13th. The tournament, benefiting the Special Olympics, will be played on the turf at Scott Stadium.

The inaugural year will only feature a Men’s Division but Co-ed teams are also welcome to sign up. The tournament fee is $300 per team and it is double elimination. The tournament format will be seven on seven but there is no limit on the number of players on the roster. The field of play will be sideline to sideline with each team having four downs to score. Each half will be 20 minutes with no timeouts; running clock.

Trophies will be awarded for the first and second place teams. The winning team will receive half-off next year’s tournament as the defending champion. The winning team will also select their own tournament MVP who will receive four Recreation Coupons from Wintergreen Resort worth $200.

The tournament is open to the public at no cost. Friends and fans are encouraged to attend.

Parking is also free and available for teams and spectators. All of the proceeds from the tournament will go to Special Olympics.

Teams should contact Sgt. Steven Wilkins via e-mail (wilkinss@albemarle.org) with additional questions or to enter the tournament. There will only be 16 teams, so space is limited.
