Tobey & Defense Shine in UVa Men's Basketball's Win over Memphis
The Virginia Men's Basketball team keeps dancing.
The 'Hoos dominated Memphis Sunday night in Raleigh and will face Michigan State this Friday in the sweet sixteen.
The Cavaliers held their 23rd straight opponent to below 50 percent shooting.
This victory marks Virginia's 30th win this season, which ties a school record.
UVa's Malcolm Brogdon said, "we try to come out and impose our will from the beginning but if that doesn't happen and we don't break them right off the bat, we're going to keep going - keep playing our type of defense and our offense. At some point, we're going to wear them down and break their back."
"We make big plays and the crowd was roaring behind us," said London Perrantes. "It's huge for us. It gives us a lot of energy and lets us go back and play really good defense."
Virginia's Mike Tobey had a red-hot performance.
The UVa sophomore went five-of-eight from the field with 11 points and six rebounds.
Tobey, a New York native says he's always just missed his chance to play at Madison Square Garden.
"that's going to be so awesome," said Tobey. "Last year we had two opportunities to get there and we were always one game short. So this time we're going. I'm really excited...I mean, I grew up there and never played in Madison Square Garden. I've always been one game short. It's going to be an honor."
