After a rocky rollout of healthcare.gov in the fall, it's no surprise it's becoming an issue in this year’s Congressional races.
Now, Virginia Democrats are trying to turn the issue on its head. The party launched "Gillespiecare.com" Thursday, aimed at presumed GOP Senate nominee Ed Gillespie. It says the former lobbyist and Republican National Committee Chair repeatedly changed positions on the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate.
Gillespie's campaign refutes those claims. It released a new campaign video Thursday morning touting the Republican's experience.
“As Virginia's Senator, I'll vote to repeal Obamacare, which is strangling small businesses, and replace it with policies that work,” said Gillespie during a portion of the video.
Gillespie spokesman Paul Logan says the Republican opposed the individual mandate, casting off the attacks as "misrepresentation."
Recent polling data puts Democrat Mark Warner up more than 20 points over Gillespie, with more than seven months until Election Day.
