Sen. Warner Visits UVA’s Focused Ultrasound Center
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
Senator Mark Warner visited the University of Virginia Wednesday to take a tour of its Focused Ultrasound Center.
Inside, he got a look at the focused ultrasound, which is a non-invasive therapeutic technology that can help treat serious medical disorders. It uses beams of ultrasound energy that target deep within the body.
This can help patients who have Parkinson's disease, brain tumors or cancer.
"This is only coming about because eight or nine years ago. When I was governor we put some initial public funding to start this effort, that’s now been supplemented with federal dollar funding, private sector funding, company funding,” Warner said.
After his visit to UVA, Warner headed over to Piedmont Virginia Community College to talk to students there about making smart school and career decisions.
